About DIET

District Institute of Education and Training is a nodal agency for providing academic and resource support at the district and grass roots levels for the success of various strategies and programmes in the areas of elementary and secondary education. DIET serves as the third tier of training and resource support structure at the district level after NCERT at national level and SCERTs at State level. DIETs have been established as centres of guidance for educational institutions and schools of a district.

DIET Kottayam

DIET Kottayam, established in 1992, is located at Velloor near Pampady, by the side of Kottayam – Kumily state highway. This institution serves as a backbone to all educational activities in the district. DIET Kottayam plans to become a centre of excellence, revolusionising all aspects of elementary, secondary and higher secondary education by providing all modern infrastructural facilities within the campus encompassing an area of over 3.5 acres.

Our Mission

To provide academic and resource support at the grassroots level for the success of the various strategies and programmes being undertaken in the areas of elementary and secondary education in the district, in achieving excellence in all fields by giving adequate training and guidance.

DIET Redifined

The District Institute of Education and Training is considered to be the light house that guides all the educational activities in the district. The Kottayam DIET is on her way to becoming the Centre of Excellence. With a vision to become the pioneer in the field, the Institute plans to change from tip to toe. We realise that its our duty to lead the schools from minus two to plus two by providing all the modern amenities that the era demands.

Role of DIET

  •  Pre-Service Teacher Education (Elementary).
  •  In-Service Teacher Education (Elementary and Secondary).
  •  Designing interventions for direct support to schools and work with special groups in the District.
  •  Studies on status of education, education assessment, and documentation.
  •  Annual academic plan and periodic reviews, for the district, in consultation with various related organizations and stakeholders.
  •  Running an effective Resource Centre with outreach, in conjuction with BRCs and CRCs (Gol, 2011).It is also a fact that DIET needs more Human Resource (Personnel) and much more funds to easy out the above tasks, DIETs also need autonomy in its functioning.
